Starting your driving journey in Glasgow’s East End is exciting, but it comes with a lot of responsibility. Whether you’re navigating the busy junctions of Tollcross Road or practising your manoeuvres near Parkhead, staying on the right side of the law is essential for keeping your provisional license safe. At Transformers School of Motoring, we don't just teach you how to pass; we teach you how to be a safe, legal driver. Here are the critical UK driving laws you need to know, including the new 2026 rules for booking tests. The 2026 Test BookingAs of May 2026, the DVSA has introduced strict new laws to stop "test swapping" and professional bots from hogging appointments.
The "Two-Change" Rule: You can now only change your driving test appointment two times. If you need to change it a third time, you must cancel and rebook.
Instructor Booking Ban: It is now against the law for driving instructors or third-party sites to book or swap tests for you. You must manage your own booking through the official GOV.UK site. https://www.gov.uk/book-driving-test

Supervision: More Than Just a PassengerIf you are practising outside of your professional lessons (perhaps driving to The Forge with a parent), the law is very specific about who can sit in the passenger seat:
They must be at least 21 years old.
They must have held a full UK/EU driving license for at least 3 years.
They are legally "in charge" of the vehicle. This means they cannot use a mobile phone or be under the influence of alcohol while supervising you.

The "L" Plate LawIt sounds simple, but getting this wrong can lead to 6 penalty points, which would mean an immediate ban for a learner.
L plates must be clearly visible on the front and back of the car.
They must be the correct size and not obstructed.
Remember: You must remove or cover L plates when a full license holder is driving the car.

Mobile Phones and "Interactive" Tech
The law was updated recently to close every loophole. It is illegal to hold a phone for any reason, including checking the time or skipping a song, even while stopped at traffic lights in. As a learner, your focus must be 100% on the road.

Navigating the legalities of driving can be just as stressful as the driving itself. At Transformers School of Motoring, we pride ourselves on being the most supportive school in Glasgow.
We turn nervous learners into confident, legal drivers.
Local Expertise: We know every tricky corner of Tollcross, Baillieston, and the East End.
High Pass Rates: Our students don't just know the law, they master the road.
